International Day Of Yoga is being celebrated every year on 21st june since 2015. This year yoga day will be celebrated amid this COVID-19 pandemic when the whole world needed it the most. The theme of the international yoga day 2021 is "Yoga For Well-being".
The Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi suggested the United Nations on the UN general assembly in 2014 to celebrate International yoga day on 21st june ,which is also the longest day in Northern Hemisphere. Since then yoga was more popularized around the world.
History of Yoga :
There has been a debate regarding the origin yoga. But the widely excepted theory is that Yoga came into existence over 5000 years ago. It was developed by the Indus-Saraswati civilization in northern india. In literary terms the word yoga was first mentioned in the oldest sacred religious text of India, 'Rig Ved' , which is the first among the four Vedas. Yoga is an immortal gift of India's ancient culture and now it is excepted by the whole world.
What is Yoga :
First of all we must understand that yoga is neither a religion nor it is connected with any religion. Yoga is a spiritual feeling which brings harmony between the mind and the body; man and nature. It connects our soul with the universe and leads us to an another world. It is way of healthy life style. Yoga gives us the experience of oneness and self realisation and it also teaches us how to deal with our sufferings and problems of our daily life.
Importance of Yoga :
Practicing yoga has a huge impact in our life not only physically but also mentally. It brings equilibrium between our physical and mental health.
Yoga keep us away from various disease and medicine too. Yoga maintains our physical strength and well-being. Practicing Yoga everyday reduces many health risk. It improves brain function, increases flexibility, lowers stress level, improves lung, reduces anxiety , reduces pain on bones, reduces heavy weight and heart disease etc.
Yoga removes depression and teaches us how to deal with tensions and problems and keep our mind quiet. In today's world everyone one is suffered by psychological problems. Yoga keeps away the psychological diseases from us and keeps us fresh.
Yoga is also very important for children. It is helpful for their mental growth and well being. students can increase their concentration in study if they practice yoga everyday. Concentration is very important not only for students but also for every human being.
The COVID-19 pandemic has confined the whole world in the house and increased the sufferings in many ways. The pandemic and lockdown increased mental disease and depression. Depression has taken away so many lives as the covid-19 did, but this is not registered anywhere. So the one thing which can lift us from this place is Yoga. Even yoga can give us the strength to fight against any virus by improving our immunity.
In 21st century everyone is consuming medicines for various diseases. The side effects of medicines affect human body through different ways. But yoga can minimize our consumption of medicines. And most importantly it is free of cost , we can get its benefits by doing some simple yogas at our homes.
Busy Life Style :
Busy schedule has made our life routine bound. Everyone is busy with their works and jobs. So many people stay away from yoga due to lack of time. But it is time to realise the importance of yoga for the physical and mental health.
The COVID-19 pandemic has shown us how important health is in our life. So we must implement yoga in our life style and make it a part of our busy life.
Apart from this many people shows negligence about yoga. This negligence is seen mostly among the poor people. So the governments and influentials must aware them about the benefits of yoga.
