World Refugee day is observed every year on 20th June by the United Nations to honour the refugees around the world who are forced to leave their native countries. This is the occasion to show solidarity, empathy and boost their strength and improve their quality of life.
Who are Refugees ?
Refugees are the people who have left thier countries due to war, terror, economic crisis, environmental crisis, political turmoil and religious violence. They undertake a long journey to reach another country and on the way many of them lose thier lives without proper food, nutrients and transport facility. The world has seen some awful journey of the refugees in past few years. After reaching their destination they are prevented to cross the boundary of that country by the security personals. They have to live in the unhygienic camps for an indefinite period.
Refugee Crisis :
The past decade has seen some rapidly increasing incidents of refugee crisis and made it the most complex social issue. The refugee crisis was mostly seen in Syria, Afganistan, Venezuela , South Sudan , Myanmar, Oman, Republic of Congo and so on.
Syria :
The Civil war in Syria and the terror of ISIS has forced millions of people to take shelter in different countries. Since 2011 more than 6.6 million Syrians have fled in neighbouring countries like Turkey, Jordon, Lebanon, Iraq and Egypt.
Myanmar :
Most recently The Rohinga muslims of Myanmar have fled the country facing discrimination and violence in the Rakhine state of Myanmar. 1 million rohingas are living in the camps of Cox's Bazar, Bangladesh. Many of them illegally entered in india and living in different states.
Afganistan :
More than 2.7 million people of Afghanistan left the country due to political conflict, economic crisis and climate related challenges.
Venezuela :
In Venezuela , more than 4.6 million people are displaced due to humanitarian crisis, suddenly increasing prices of necessary items like food, medicine etc.
South Sudan :
The world's newest country, South Sudan has forced 2.3 million people to flee the country due to violence, economic crisis, hunger and disease .
This is not only the problem of the refugees, the host countries of the refugees also suffer. the top hosted countries are Turkey, Germany, Lebanon, Jordon, Bangladesh, colombia, iraq, Uganda. They face so many challenges from giving them shelter to provide food and drinking water and other necessities.
Apart from these the Uighur muslims of China are living like refugees in detention camps. There are about 12 million Uighurs living in the Xinjiang province of China.
Besides, the minority Hindus, Sikhs of Pakistan are forced to leave the country. They become prey to religious violence. Many of them have fled Pakistan and took shelter in India. Thus the minorities are gradually decreasing there.
Difficulties of Refugees :
So many challenges are faced by the refugees in the camps. In a different country they need to cope up with the environment .
They do not get proper food and drink contaminated water. They have to live in unhygienic camps. So they are infected by various diseases. Without food and nutrients many children die in those camps.
The children in those camps are deprived of their education and thus their mental growth is retarded.
They face difficulties to adjust with the different language and culture of that country.
They don't get job and government facilities in that country as they lack proper documentation.
The Way Ahead :
Refugees are like the normal human beings. So in any condition they should be treated like everyone. But we talk about them when these incidents take place. But we don't talk too much why the crisis originates. So all the governments around the world and United Nations together must deal with the crisis and find out the causes why these incidents take place.
