Lockdown has become a familiar word around the world since 2020. The COVID-19 pandemic has forced the governments all over the world to announce lockdown to curb the spread of the pandemic.
The second wave of the pandemic has shown its more disastrous nature in India. So the state governments announced lockdown in their respective states. Recently the Governments of West Bengal , Gujarat and Punjab have extended the lockdown period. In West Bengal the lockdown has been extended till 15th June, 2020 with the same restrictive measures to be implemented .
As per the guidelines , all government and private institutions and companies will remain close. The other activities and markets will remain open from 7 am to 10 am. As the markets remain open only for three hours, people come together at the market to take all necessary items. So a huge crowd is seen , which is crowder than the normal days. So the point is that -
where does the virus go from 7 am to 10 am? Does the virus not infect people in these three hours ? What is the purpose of the lockdown ?
Is the lockdown effective to curb the spread of COVID-19 ?
It may be yes or may be not. but it is sure that the lockdown has deadlier effect on the lives of the common people. Lockdown did not reduce the fear of the pandemic . Instead it has increased the fear by some other ways. Many people become jobless and unemployed due to lockdown. Thus the fear of bread and livelihood become the main issue. As a result the issues like anxiety and depression rise in society.
